Now I have said that my mom wasn’t the most imaginative cook, nor the best cook. But there was one recipe that she made and she did it damn well, every…single..time she cooked it. Hamburger gravy and rice was a beloved staple in my house growing up.
I loved it. I could eat it almost every day. I still would if my dairy issues would allow it.
For those of you new to the site, I’m running a Cook Easy Foodie Blogger Challenge in September. Today the topic is posting a quick beef recipe. If you are a foodie blogger and just hitting this post, please feel free to join in. The 30 days of posting to your blog will do it wonders. You can still use the suggested topics and then post a comment with your link for me to check out. But get to posting. Now is as good a time as any.
I’m posting this recipe as I grew up making. I started helping my mom in the kitchen at an early age. This is possibly the first recipe I can remember being able to make from memory. I alter it some at my house now and of course with my darn dairy issue I can’t eat it at all, but it’s still a favorite.
Oh, this was also the recipe I requested for my birthday dinner constantly. Man I was an easy kid! My preference was and always has been to serve this with green beans.
- 1lb ground beef
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 can milk
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 2 cups cooked rice
- Brown ground beef on medium until just a little pink is left.
- Add onion and celery. Cook on medium until they onion is translucent.
- Add soup, milk and bouillion cubes. Stir until combined and starts to bubble. Turn down to low and let simmer to thicken.
- Spoon over cooked rice.
Tomorrow I’ll be talking about my favorite organizational product. Not easy to figure out since I’m not the most organized person. lol
Never worry about what's for dinner again. I've got you covered with the meal plans in the Once a Week Cooking Club. Cook once, eat all week.
