There are very few meals made from ground beef or turkey that don’t freeze well. It just loans itself to quickly freezing and reheating is a snap. It also doesn’t dry out when reheating which is key to enjoying your prepared meals.
I use a lot of ground beef or turkey when cooking. Mostly ground turkey because of my food issues, but for the most part they are interchangeable in any recipe. I’ve found a few that the family doesn’t like me to substitute ground turkey and that’s fine. They were dishes with dairy in them so I can’t partake in them anyway. Easy enough for me to keep to the old standby of ground beef.
I always buy the leanest ground beef possible. Even when we are making up hamburgers for the freezer I’ll grab the lowest fat. We can add eggs and bread crumbs to help it stick together. I don’t want their fillers and unhealthy fat added to it.
But this gets expensive so I’m always on the look out for a sale. I’m all about scouring the clearance section in the meat dept. Then when I find a great deal (typicallly on Monday mornings) I’ll buy as many packages as they have. Because I’m looking for the best deal, I don’t fall for the 30% off. I hold out for the 50% orange sticker.
Whether I use it right away or freeze it will depend on what’s in my freezer at the time and what’s on the meal plan for the week. If I already have chili and spaghetti in the freezer then I may just freeze it in the packages to use later.
I have a lot of recipes for using ground meat. No, I won’t make you search them out. Here ya go!
And those are just some from the site. There are plenty more in the meal plans for you to stock up in your freezer. This time of year I love to make up patties of the herb burgers and Moroccan burgers to store in the freezer. They only take a few hours to thaw and I can take out the exact portions I need for a BBQ on any given day.
What are some of your favorite ground beef recipes to keep in the freezer?
