Well after I wrote that title, I looked up what the actual national slow cooker month was and it was January. Oh well, for me January is about football, munchies and finger foods. February is busy and cold. Wrestling, skiing, birthdays and of course the regular family stuff in the mix.
Sure make-ahead meals help me with that immensely. But someone still needs to be home to heat the meal up. With my food in the crockpot I know it’s ready to eat when any of us get back from various events. Especially with everyone coming and going at different times.
My favorite slow cooker is one that will turn itself to warm after the cooking time has expired. During wrestling tournaments we have no idea how late we will be. The last thing I need is to come home to burnt food or worse.
I love my slow cooker so much that I actually have 3 of them right now. Gotta love black friday sales and hand-me-downs. I found a new one in my parents shed that I think was my Grandma’s 🙂 It’s being put to good use now. On cooking days and just on days that I didn’t feel like washing the crock the night before. Honesty people, shooting for honesty here. I hate house cleaning and dishes are just never ending. There are many times I want to use the slow cooker 2 days in a row but I was way too tired or lazy to wash the crock the night before. Now I have a back up. Oh, way to help a lazy girl be lazier.
Surprisingly having the backups has helped me not be as lazy. Maybe it’s the fact that I know I don’t HAVE to clean it up that second that makes it easier? I don’t know, why analyze it. As long as it’s working right? 😉
I’ll be posting articles and recipes all month for the slow cooker. Many of these you can set up to freeze ahead of time too so I’ll be working on that. Surprisingly I haven’t gotten into prepacking the meals yet that are ready to toss into the crockpot. I can’t keep up on everything but I’m working on it.
As I fall in love with my crockpots all over again this month don’t be surprised if a new ebook comes out of it. Make sure and join the newsletter so you get first notice.
But there’s no need to wait for me to post new crockpot recipes and articles, I have 33 of them on the site already!
Here are some of my favorite recipes that are already listed. By the way there is a print option on all my recipes that I’ve posted in the last 2-3 years. You’ll find it in the upper right hand corner in the box by the ingredients.
chicken dinner in the slow cooker is always a hit and so inexpensive.
Slow cooker spaghetti sauce is always in my freezer. I swear every time I post about this recipe I’m down to one bag in there and it’s almost time to make some more. Easy to change up by using different pasta and/or putting it over meat or veggies.
Mild chili for any cold day. Again, this is another recipe that’s a staple in my freezer. I’ve started freezing it in smaller portions so family members can thaw it out for lunch too. Much healthier than them grabbing a can out of the pantry.
Do you have any favorite meals you like to make in your crockpot? Anything you’ve been wanting to make but couldn’t find a recipe for?
Never worry about what's for dinner again. I've got you covered with the meal plans in the Once a Week Cooking Club. Cook once, eat all week.
