It’s day 4 of the spring Cook Easy Foodie Blogger challenge. If you are just joining in, please check out the main post for all the info. But it’s easy. Just go put up a post today and come back here and add your link in a comment so we can go check it out. Today’s blog prompt is “Do you like to cook?” if you’d need a hand in figuring out a topic. But you can blog about anything food and I’d like to hear.
Back to the question at hand.
Do I enjoy cooking?
Yes, I love cooking. I’d cook every day and most hours of the day if it wasn’t for one big problem.
cleaning it all up
Boooooo. I really hate cleaning. Like with a serious passion, dislike cleaning. When I win the lottery, a cleaning crew is the first thing on my list. I will gladly pay that fee. Hmm, but I guess I’d still be too cheap to have them come in every day so I’m always going to be stuck doing dishes. arghhh, the torture! Why isn’t there an easier way?
Well there is. When I do my once a week or month cooking it really saves on the dishes each day. But there are still those days that I want to cook and by bedtime I’ve either done a ton of dishes or my counters are seriously piled up. Yes, I’m not ashamed to tell you that I’ll let them stack up and do them the next day if I’ve really had it.
When we eventually build our dream home I think I need to add a dishes room. Something with a larger, commercial size dishwasher and sinks. Oh, what a wonderful idea! Then I can cook to my hearts content and just put the dishes in a different room like when we owned our cafe. HEAVENLY idea!
I do love to cook
and half the time the dishes don’t even bother me. I mean after all these years it is just a given. Plus, I can remind myself that I only have a ton of dishes to do for a few more short years. The oldest graduates next month and the youngest is only 3 more years behind that. Then I’ll be pining for these years and all the dishes I was doing right?
I’ll be gladly begging them to come home and bring any of their friends so I can cook a huge meal again. I’ll also be able to make up some really funky dishes since it will just be hubby and I taste testing. I do try to look for the positives of them moving out and leaving me. I’m hoping it will soften the blow.
Bulk cooking and having major cooking sessions brought the love of cooking back. It was less monotonous. I didn’t have the pressure each day of,”what’s for dinner?” I can use one of the meals I thawed or if I got a wild hair and have time, I can make up something new to try. With the day to day pressure taken off, figuring out meal plans became fun again. Trying new recipes was something to look forward to.
It’s not even that I love to try new recipes. I think I might like to take the every day recipes and see how I can make them better even more. Take something completely normal that I know the family loves and dress it up a bit if you will.
This summer I’m really excited as I have a few herbs starting to grow and a little garden going. I’m keeping it really small since I have a black thumb.
I’m working on mapping out some themed cooking months coming up. June will be cooking with wine and after that it will probably go around what veggies are coming up in my garden and what the local farm stand is having a big sale on. I’m hoping my food dehydrator and canning equipment gets a really good workout as hubby and I branch out into new foods!
Never worry about what's for dinner again. I've got you covered with the meal plans in the Once a Week Cooking Club. Cook once, eat all week.
