It seems like the cost of living is on the rise each and every day. But there are many ways you can keep the cost of running your household down. One of those ways is to reduce your food bill. Here are a few important tips and tricks on how to save big at the supermarket.
Store Loyalty Cards
Each and every week supermarkets have many items on sale. However, there is a way to maximize your savings even more. Sign up for the store’s loyalty card. Most supermarkets do offer their costumers this free savings card. Usually you can sign up for one at the costumer service desk. This store loyalty card unlocks additional savings on top of sale priced items, which means less money out of your pocket!
Certain supermarket stores offer their own “in house” coupons, which can only be used at their store. For example, my local Shoprite offers their costumers SuperCoupons. Typically, these coupons offer a phenomenal deal on various food items, such as $0.99 for a dozen eggs or even buy one get one free Italian loaf bread. These coupons can only be used at the designated store. Be sure to read the fine print on these store coupons, as sometimes they do require an additional purchase of a certain amount of money in order to receive the discount of the store coupon.
Manufacture coupons are also a way that you can receive substantial discounts at the supermarket. Typically, manufacture coupons can be found in the Sunday newspaper. But they can also be found in a variety of other places, such as on the product itself. These coupons are known as peelies or hang tags as the coupon is directly on the product itself. Sometimes major companies such as Proctor and Gamble may send our mailers with coupons in them just for their products. Be sure to look inside the packaging of your products once you purchase them, as there may be hidden coupons on the packaging.
It is important to be familiar with your store’s coupon policy, as you may be able to receive further discounts using manufacture coupons. Manufacture coupons can be doubled or even tripled, depending on the store. Some stores may only double up to $1.00 or some may not even double at all, although most stores do offer some additional savings to their costumers when they use manufacture coupons. Depending on your store’s coupon policy, you may be able to use both store and manufacture coupons to receive a double discount on the product.
Match Up Sales with Coupons
To further maximize your supermarket savings, match sale items with possible coupons. It is great to use coupons on products, but it is even better if you can get the item on sale and use a coupon on the product too! Remember though, manufacture coupons do have an expiration date.
Remember that you don’t always have to buy the product you have a coupon for, you are saving money if you are not spending it!
