It’s day 4 of the Cook Easy Foodie Blogger Challenge. If your new, please feel free to jump on in and start posting each day to your blog as well. We’ll look forward to reading.
Today I’m asking about who got you started cooking.
Without a doubt it was my Mom. She even helped to get my kids into cooking and baking. Now my Mom is definitely not the world’s best cook but she’s an awesome teacher. She’s beyond patient so helping to teach little one’s to use knifes and to work through a recipe came easily for her. I had to fight my inner need to get stuff done quickly and do it myself when the kids were little.
Beyond her teaching me all the basics she brought more to the table because she didn’t really care so much about cooking. I learned to make a lot of dishes by memory because she stayed with a few more simple meals. This in turn helped me to experiment a lot as I got older. My Mom never cared if I wanted to cook dinner or any other meal for that matter. I could take control of the kitchen at anytime and create something new I’d found in a cookbook. She’s an avid cookbook collector so there was never a shortage of new recipes to check out.
Now that said, for some reason, no amount of helping my Mom could get me to make the perfect pie crust. I have my Mom’s recipe and I’ve made it with her a zillion times. No matter what, mine never turns out light and flaky like her’s does. However, it seems to have skipped a generation because my daughter is pretty hand with it.
My Mom is an incredible baker and that is what she loves to do in the kitchen. It shows. I can remember one Thanksgiving she wasn’t going to bring the pumpkin pie up to my house because it didn’t turn out to her liking. What didn’t turn out to her, is what others HOPE theirs will come out like. Her pies are just amazing.
She also makes amazing jams and jelly’s and has canned for decades. Growing up we never bought a jar of jam or jelly and there was homemade bread to spread it on. Absolute perfection.
Thank you to my Mom for being the inspiration for what my cooking is today and for always making me enjoy it.
Never worry about what's for dinner again. I've got you covered with the meal plans in the Once a Week Cooking Club. Cook once, eat all week.
