Just what is once a week cooking?
It’s a combination of meal planning and freezer cooking. While I love doing the once a month cooking, there are months that I just don’t have the time or initiative to do that many hours of cooking at once. Instead it can be a lot less stressful to take a few hours and cook up your meals for the week. Then freeze a few for later in the week and refrigerate the one’s you will eat soon.

I love having a list of dinners on my freezer door that I can thaw out the night before. Picking and choosing what we’re going to have for the week. Yes, there are some foods that cook better than others and by trial and error I’ve figured out things that work for us.
Meal planning is a sanity saver in a busy household. With teens, sports, and my husbands odd firefighter schedule there are many days I don’t even know what time it is. Like today when I was updating this page, I had no idea that it was already 6:30pm and dinner should be in the oven. Thankfully I’d had a plan in place already and just needed to turn the oven on and heat up the pasta and spaghetti sauce.
I’m all about the meal planning and being more organized about it. If you don’t know what the meals are in your fridge or freezer then you’ll end up throwing food away or over buying. That cuts into the good deal you got on meat or the coupons you used to lower your grocery bill. I’m all about saving some money and using it for fun elsewhere!
